Holiday work - Part 1: Understanding the ‘The Elderly Challenge’

I am observing my grandmother who is a resident of Malaysia but is staying in Singapore.

In Singapore, she lives a very simple life. Everyday, she usually wakes up early in the morning to go to the nearby market to buy bread for my cousins to eat for breakfast as they are staying with her. At the same time, she goes to the supermarket to get groceries for the rest of the meals during the day. She will sometimes go for a walk downstairs.

When she is free and has time to spare, she will either read a chinese book, rest in her room or teach me and my cousins to play various types of games with a deck of cards. She will seldom watch television. This is because she grew up in a poor environment without many common electrical appliances such as television, computer and even fan and washing machines.

I think that she is a good role model for me because she uses her time wisely by gaining information through reading books instead of wasting time playing games on electronic devices or going friends' houses to play mahjong.

Personal Reflection( NEwater Visit )

I feel that the trip was a fun an enriching one for me as it helps me in different ways. These ways include improving my knowledge on the subject, in this case it is about NEwater. The trip helped me appreciate what we Singaporeans have now in life and not take them for granted. In other poor countries, this process of purifying and then reusing water is not even possible. I have also understood how the purification works. Overall, I enjoyed the trip.
